4 month check up

Today was my 4 month check up. All's good. I actually lost 2 pounds this month. Last month she yelled at me and told me to stop eating carbs. Well, I didn't stop, but I didn't eat much of any rice or pasta for the month. And it must work. So, for the past month Kevin has only gotten a meat and a vedgie for dinner and he's going to keep getting that for as long as I'm prego. haha Oh well, gotta do what I've gotta do.

Potty in the bath

Ok, mom told me I should have taken a picture of this, but I would not. It was icky. Mary was in the bath tub and I was in my room. I can sit on the bed and watch her play. So, the phone rang and I went to get it. All of a sudden I hear Mary "poopie poopie". SO, I go to look and sure enough there are poopies floating in the water. ICKY! So, she wants out. Well, duh, so would I. Now I have to get her out, get her dressed and then go back and clean up the poopies in the water. Boy, was that fun. NOT!

Walking Friends

Today was super cute at our walking group. At the end we let the kids out to play while we finished up our work out. The girls seemed to just automatically play together. It was super cute. There was a new girl today, who is almost 4, who Mary loved. Then there is Ava, in the brown shirt, who is about the same age as Mary. The older girl in the orange is the director's daughter. They all decided to walk back to the park holding hands. It was a long slow walk, but they all made it by helping each other get there. So much fun making new friends!

Swim Play Date

Today we went over to Paytin's house to go swimming at their community pool. It was fun. The kiddy pool was kinda cool and she didn't really want to be in there. Then she spotted the hot tub with bubbles. Well, if there's bubbles, there's Mary. So, she went that way. It was kinda too hot for her. I didn't like the temp so I let her sit on the side and put her feet in and play with the bubbles. Then we decided to check out the big pool. It was a bit warmer and so I then went in with her. She likes to just play on the steps, but I kept pulling her out to get her to kick and such. She needs to get more comfortable out in the water then just on the steps. We're working on it. But she still has fun. We stayed for about an hour and a half and then we decided it was nap time. So back we went to change clothes and get on our way home to nap. Mommy needed a nap too. = )

TV Tray

I know all the books say to not let your kids eat in front of the TV. Well, it helps keep from going crazy. It if weren't for that I would not get anything done or get her to eat anything. Usually I pull the big high chair over to the tv and she will eat in that. But, today she saw her little chair and wanted to eat in that. Ok, whatever you want kid. I put it where she wanted and she sat down, buckled herself in and put the try on. Then she said "hungry girl". I went and made her some mac n cheese. She ate almost the whole thing. She doesn't usually do that. If this is what it takes to get her to eat, I'm all for it. Not that I want it to be a habit, but for now it's what works.

New Bed!

This is Mary's new bed we are trying to transition her out of the crib with. It is totally cool. IT folds small and goes in this cool travel bag. The pillow and sleeping bag are all attached so they won't get lost or fall off.
So, yesterday we thought we would try to have her take her nap in it. At nap time Kevin moved the crib and put the bed in it's place. That way we could see her in the monitor. We watched her and she did lay there. She moved and moved. Then she realized there was a box of toys right at her head, which we forgot to move. SO, let's play with the toys. Ok, she'd take a toy and play and then lay down. Maybe she'll get tired and go to sleep. NOPE! She then figured out she could get out. So she got out and went and got a stuffed animal and climbed back in bed and played with it. The nap was not going to happen. I sent Kevin upstairs to move the crib back and put her in to take a nap. She didn't really put up a fight. Laid right down and went to sleep.
Today we tried again. I moved the crib and put out the new bed. I got her all situated and said "no playing" and kissed her and closed the door. I went into the other room and watched her in the monitor. She laid there and moved to get comfortable. Well, I had the bed moved just to where I could not see her head in the monitor, so that made it a little difficult. But, she wasn't moving out of bed or playing. She was still for a bit so I went and quietly opened the door and peaked in. She was ASLEEP!! It was great! So, she slept for a good two hours. AT that point she sat up and put her head at the other end of the bed and went back to sleep for another 15 minutes. Once she was up she got out of bed and climbed up on her stuffed animal chair. I went in to go get her and she was sitting there in the middle of the animals looking like she was not awake yet.
So, we made it through a nap. I'm not sure if we will have her sleep there tonight or what, but we'll see what she says.

Making new Friends

Today we got to meet our new neighbor. They are renting the house next to us. It is a nice young man, single with two kids 7 and 2. They were out in the backyard playing and we were too. The little one, Milani, heard Mary and wanted to come play so they came on over. It was perfect. They played nicely today. Well, for Mary it was nice. We still have a lot of learning to do about sharing. BUT, it looks like now we'll have more opportunity to practice. Milani will turn two August 31st. So, she is almost two months younger, but it is perfect to have a play mate next door. They will be around every other weekend. The way we are home on weekends, that will be perfect.

Choo Choo!!

Mom and I went to Simi Valley to go to Babies R Us. We do not have one any closer. I needed to start researching double strollers. They have an outdoor mall there and so we, of course, had to go shopping after. I saw they had a train ride and thought Mary might like that. Well, DUH! This picture was when it first took off. She was so excited. It only cost $2 for me and she was free. It was great entertainment for her and gave mom/grandma time to try on clothes.
She had to show off that Pinto, her bear, was taking a ride too. That bear goes EVERYWHERE. It's so raggedy, but she loves it.
Mommy took a ride with her.
Then Grandma took a ride. No one missed out on the fun. Then when we got out the second time Mary spotted the shopping carts made like cars that we will have to rent to shop with next time. I think we've found a way to shop and have her happy all at once. So we think. We will see what happens when we try this adventure one day. I will keep you posted, of course.

Must Wear Froggy Boots

Mary woke up from her nap and spotted her froggy boots across the room. She insisted on wearing them ALL day. At least they went with her bathing suit of the day. She had to wear them after her shower, which did NOT go with her outfit. The next day she made grandma put them back on her. She did get a lot of comments on them when we were in public.

girls night out

Last night was mom's night out for my walking group. I was ready to get out for some non kid adult time. I got all dressed up in my jean skirt and cute pink top, did my hair and make up. I was ready to be a person for a little bit.
Mom and dad had been gone on vacation for a week or so and had no spent time with Mary for a bit, so I dropped Mary off for the night. SO, I got a mom's night away and Kevin got an evening to himself at home.
The fun evening started about 6. I was there at 5:58. The first one, of course. And pretty much the ONLY one in the bar too. Oh well, give me an Odouls! I'm the real party animal these days. haha! Soon others showed up. There ended up to be a total of 7 of us. There was the louder drinking table and then the pregnant table. There are two other girls pregnant in our group and so we took our own table. I pigged out on nachos and then the three of us shared a tasty chocolate brownie dessert. I was the lucky one to bring the left overs home. I knew Kevin would be happy about that.
So, the drinking group left about 8:30 and us pregos stayed for another hour. We talked and talked. It was fun. I told the other table they better watch our for me in January, when I can drink again. I think I'll have to have Kevin drop and pick me up. haha

Play Date

Today Paytin came over to play with Mary. She is just a little younger than Mary, turning 2 in October. they play pretty well together as long as there isn't something they need to share. Sharing is something we need to work on. I know it's the age, but we still need to work on it. We had a few crying spurts with full on tears, but we got through them. All in all they had a good time playing outside. There is something about being outside that makes everything better. I do agree, but when it's 90 something out and humid I tend to disagree. Oh well, whatever makes them happy.
I decided to try to make it fun and have them eat their lunch at the little table outside. Well, that wasn't the best idea. Paytin ate fine, but Mary was too distracted and able to get out of her seat too easy and didn't eat to much. Well, I tried, but learned she's not ready for that yet.
They came over about 10:30 and about 1:00 they were both crying over nothing and we figured it was nap time and they went home. So, more play dates to come to work on the sharing and friendship.

one week of swim down

We finished week one of two weeks of swim today. I feel she is improving. At first she didn't really want to do anything but hang on me like a monkey. We have progressed to playing on the stairs to come in the pool and she will hold onto the side of the pool and float for a minute. Every day we have a different lifeguard in the pool with us. They all say she is doing just fine and she will progress in time. So, it's all good. She does get excited when we are getting ready to go, so that is good. The pool isn't too warm, and we do start at 9am, so I can give her that excuse.

first swim class

Today we had our first mommy and me swim class. We were the first ones to arrive, thanks to me and how I always have to be on time. So, we walked into the, not so warm, water. She did great. I held her and we waited for our first instructions. He told us to Ly the kids on their tummies and get them to kick. Well, she didn't want to kick. I finally got her to do it and then she wouldn't do it anymore. Then he told us to get them to lay on their backs and kick. Well, that was not going to happen. We spent the whole class just trying to get them to kick. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

Fun with Bugs and Bubbles

Mary loves bugs. I'm not a big bug person, but I guess I have to be now. For her birthday she got this cool bug box, so we put it to use last night. She found a stink bug and Kevin put it in her box. She carried it around and showed it different things. Then she got a wash cloth and washed the box off, thinking she was washing the bug.
If you can see the little but in there in the upper left hand corner. It as pretty exciting!
While Mary was playing with her bug, daddy was bbq'ing bubbles. This was another birthday present. It's actually pretty cool. It makes a lot of bubbles and is easy for Mary to do herself. AND it entertains my husband too!!

4th of July Fun!

Every year since I was a kid we have gone to the 4th of July car show in Fillmore. I grew up a car club kid. And now it looks like Mary will be doing the same. Right here she is standing next to grandpa's truck. She would like to sit on the foot board, right there, and grandpa told her that she is the only one is was allowed to do that. Mary has him wrapped around his little finger, or what!
Grandma bought Mary her first pinwheel. She eventually understood how to make it work. She kept wanting to put her lips on it and blow, and that didn't really work. SO, she would put it our faces to make it go. Whatever works!
Mary got her first taste of a snow cone. She enjoyed it. She ate this right before we left and still passed out in the car and slept for almost three hours when we got home. I guess sugar doesn't effect her too much yet.
We never saw any fireworks. I don't think I've seen fireworks in the past 10 years. After starting the car show at 8am, I'm not up for staying up late in the dark. SO, maybe next year Mary will get to see some. She never has seen any, so she doesn't know what she's missing out on yet.

Officially 2

July 2nd was Mary's officially birthday. She had her party on Sunday, but we still did a small celebration as a family on the actual day. I got her a small cake and a small present to open. She is going to start thinking every day is her birthday if this keeps happening. But, she enjoyed having cake one more time. Ok, mom and dad enjoyed having cake too. = )

We went to the doctor today for her two year check up. I tried to get her excited about the doctor. She was excited while we were in the waiting room, but as soon as the nurse called her name she was attached to me like glue. She cried a bit when the doctor came in, but I did my best to keep her calm. She did have to have one shot, hep A, and she did cry but did great. I had to keep reminding her that she got a cool band aid. So, she's doing great. She is 36 inches tall and 26 pounds. That kid just doesn't gain weight. Wish I had that problem. But we are doing good!!
